Adoption of NASA's GRX-810 strengthens in space, and defense industries
As a co-licensee of NASA’s GRX-810 patent, Elementum 3D supplies NASA’s breakthrough GRX-810 oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) superalloy feedstock for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). NASA developed GRX-810 to enable engineers to manufacture next-generation propulsion components capable of operating in the harshest aerospace environments. GRX-810 redefines high-temperature material performance.
By making NASA’s GRX-810 commercially available, Elementum 3D is helping aerospace, space, and defense manufacturers accelerate the adoption of advanced additive manufacturing materials across the entire supply chain. From research and prototyping to production-ready hardware, our team provides the material expertise and manufacturing capabilities needed to transition breakthrough technology into real-world applications.
Engineered for applications including liquid rocket engine injectors, combustors, turbines, and other hot-section components, GRX-810 was designed to withstand significantly higher temperatures and greater mechanical stress than conventional superalloys. The material also enables lighter, thinner component designs that contribute to reduced fuel consumption, lower operating costs, increased durability, and greater reliability in mission-critical systems where failure is not an option.
At high temperatures GRX-810 offers 1,000-fold better creep resistance with a two-fold increase in strength and oxidation resistance compared to other available printable superalloys. The chart below provides typical performance data from NASA and Elementum 3D for powder bed fusion laser beam (PBF-LB) printed GRX-810.
In addition to supplying GRX-810 feedstock, Elementum 3D offers in-house additive manufacturing services for both GRX-810 and GRCop-42. GRCop-42 is NASA’s high thermal conductivity copper alloy that combines exceptional heat transfer with high strength through dispersion strengthening, making it ideal for combustion chambers, nozzles, heat exchangers, and other thermally demanding propulsion components.
